I opened my eyes after what seemed to be a very long and deep sleep. I tried hard to remember who and where I was.
But everything seemed very blurry. My mind was clouded and very confused. I slowly turned my head to look around in the dim light.
I realized that my face was pressing against something very soft and warm, and it smelled very sweet.
I pulled away to look at it. Slowly I made out in the dim light, that I was staring at a disproportionately large breast.
A large but soft hand came suddenly from behind me and tenderly pulled me closer. Following that a warm lip came down and kissed my forehead.
"Go to sleep, my child," a woman's soft sweet voice said to me.
I looked up and saw the sleeping face of a beautiful, angel-like woman. I looked around in confusion.
Slowly it dawned on me that I was in a hospital room, that too in a maternity ward.
"Not again!" I screamed in frustration and anger.
I tried violently to wiggle out of the soft clothes that wrapped around me and shook my head vigorously.
My mother didn't seem to have noticed the commotion I was trying to raise and continued to sleep peacefully.
After a while I realized that I was too weak, too small, and helpless and gave up my attempts. I was exhausted and my mind was filled with mixed emotions.
Anger, frustration, and sadness, all simultaneously swept through me, and I started weeping uncontrollably. My heart bled and ached with pain at the thought of the long life that lay ahead.
"Hey Arjuna, stop crying like a baby," I heard my mother say.
I looked up and saw that her eyes were still closed, and she was sleeping peacefully. Maybe she was sleep talking, I assumed.
"It's me, Krishna," I heard her speak again. I looked up. Her eyes were still closed.
But now I was listening with rapt attention.
"Don't you remember me, Arjuna? I am your Krishna, speaking through your mother."
Everything suddenly came back to me in a flash. There was no more need to waste time in introductions and niceties.
"Do I need to go through this again, Krishna? I don't want to live another life."
"Arjuna, you no longer have that choice. You are already born to this world now and this world is already born to you."
"Krishna, I simply want to refuse and go back right now."
"Arjuna, don't you remember that we had this same discussion and debate in many past lives?"
"Yes, Krishna, and each and every time you won."
"But which one is your favorite Arjuna? Tonight, I will narrate that to you."
"Please tell me the Gita you narrated to me on the Kurukshetra battlefield."
"I will happily do it Arjuna. But remember that you will forget everything when the sun rises in the morning tomorrow."
"I know that Krishna, but I still would like to hear it from you."
And with that, for what may have been for the millionth time or even more, Krishna narrated the Gita once again to Arjuna.
