The Train Passengers

By Dr Saju Divakar

He sat there waiting at the station, waiting for the train to his destination. The trains came and went,Some to the east and some to the west.

A train then rolled into the station very slow,And he saw her face in its faded glass window.

His heart stopped and skipped a beat, and all his blood drained to his feet. The wrinkles of time, tried in vain,to hide her face and the bittersweet pain.

A long time ago their paths had crossed,Was now like a dream as years many had passed.Beautiful were the days of that colourful season, days and nights filled with joy and love forbidden.

Had parted then with hearts which bled, and back they had gone to the grey life ahead. He could still feel the breath of their parting kiss, and the burning warmth of her thin red lips.

As her face faded in the window of receding train,

His heart longed to hold her tight and kiss her again
